Why fitness classes should be part of your workout

All year round, the fitness industry bombards us with complicated diets and fitness routines to follow. For newbies, this can make just thinking about starting a fitness journey overwhelming – and potentially stop us from starting one at all.

But fitness is important, and it doesn’t have to be complicated. If you don’t have your fitness routine sorted – we’re here to help.

At Energybase, we offer a wide range of fitness classes specifically designed to keep people of all fitness levels fit and healthy - without being overwhelming or boring!

So, relax! Let’s talk about how and why exercise classes could help make your fitness resolutions come true.

What’s good about exercise classes?

Fitness classes make exercise easy. The key to maintaining a fitness routine is to find simple, easy-to-follow exercises that you enjoy and feel comfortable with, while still feeling challenged. And fitness classes offer just that! They’re a sustainable, fun way to get into exercise, whether you’re returning or starting from scratch!

There are many other benefits to group exercise, including:

1. Exercise classes can be adapted to your fitness level

The beauty of an exercise class is that both a seasoned pro or a fitness newbie can take part in the same session. Each class caters for different levels by modifying movements or varying intensity. This makes fitness classes open and accessible to everyone, helping you to feel comfortable and not out of your depth.

2. Fitness classes are great motivation

Exercising on your own can be extremely rewarding – but it can also be easy to slack off if you’re not feeling in the mood.

In group classes, you’re surrounded by your peers and you’re stood in front of an instructor who wants to get the best out of you. So, slacking off isn’t really an option! That’s why group exercise helps you perform better compared with exercising alone. And as a result, you’ll have more fun and you’ll see your fitness improve faster.

3. Fitness classes make you work harder

When you’re in a room full of others doing the same exercise, it’s hard not to feel motivated! Seeing other people push themselves to do their best can spark that sense of playful competition that drives you to give it your all.

Furthermore, fitness instructors are heavy on motivational encouragement, supporting you to get through the workout no matter what.

4. Fitness classes offer variety and keep you on your toes

Following the same gym routine can quickly lead to boredom, making you less likely to want to head to the gym in the first place Also, following the same routine week in, week out, means that your body will adapt to the workout - making it harder improve your fitness beyond a certain level.

By attending a handful of different fitness classes each week, you’ll keep boredom at bay while also keeping your body on its toes. For example, including a weights-based class, a cardio class and a core strengthening class in your weekly routine will do wonders for your all-round fitness. Plus, the variety in movement will keep you more engaged.

5. Fitness classes can be social

Fitness classes are a great way to connect with new people. For example, if you attend the same kickboxing class every Wednesday, you’re likely to end up chatting with the familiar faces you see each week.  Furthermore, making friends and building enjoyable connections will motivate you further to keep showing up.

6. You just have to follow the instructor

Something that holds fitness newcomers back is the fear that they’ll do something wrong and end up hurting themselves or looking silly.

With exercise classes, all you need to do is follow what the instructor is doing. There’s no figuring out how machines work or how much weight you need to lift. Trained professionals will talk you through any equipment you’ll use, meaning all you need to do is follow the movements and keep showing up.
