What We Do
The University of London Chamber Choir (ULCC) is a high standard, dynamic and expressive choral ensemble formed of current and former students from the colleges of the University of London. We are a small choir of 30 members, singing a diverse repertoire of sacred and secular music spanning well over five centuries. We perform several concerts a year to enthusiastic audiences in London, usually at our lovely home St. George’s Bloomsbury. We have also led Evensong at Southwark Cathedral and regularly perform further afield; recent concerts include Ely Cathedral and venues in Norwich, Ludham and Littlebury. We have also undertaken international tours to Milan and Malta. In addition to our members’ strong musical capabilities, we are also a very sociable bunch, often found having a post-rehearsal dinner or relaxing in the local pub.
We recruit new members at the beginning of each academic year. We are an auditioned choir, as we believe this allows us to maintain a high standard and a good vocal blend. To audition, you must be a current student of the colleges of the University of London and have some experience in choral singing. If you are interested in auditioning, please drop us an email!
When and Where We Meet
During term time, we rehearse once a week on Tuesday evenings 6:30-8:30pm at Student Central in room 3A. On concert days we have a late afternoon rehearsal at the venue. We look for a high level of commitment from our members to ensure that we reach the high standard that we are capable of! Therefore, attendance at weekly rehearsals and concerts is compulsory.
Who is the Director?
We are currently under the baton of Dr Colin Durrant, an exceptional conductor with a wide range of choral and teaching experience.
What does it cost?
If you are successful at the audition stage, we ask that you pay for ULCC membership. For Full Members of Student Central this costs £50 per year. For Associate Members and Alumni Members of Student Central this costs £75 per year.
