The Fencing Club prides itself on being the cheapest and friendliest fencing club in London. We provide coaching for all levels and weapons and run regular beginner courses. Our calendar includes international tours, regular matches with other clubes and a full social programme.

What we do

Fencing today is a very modern, athletic sport and uses many different skills including balance, quickness of thought, fast reactions and good coordination; making fencing training an ideal means of keeping fit for all ages and abilities. The sport has developed from the ancient art of duelling and the three weapons used in the sport have evolved over the last three hundred years.

The club is open to all fencers whatever their level of experience and coaching is provided for all three weapons. Training involves footwork and fitness along with classes, one to one lessons and free fencing. We have a number of top class fencers at the club and train with electric equipment for all three weapons. There is a comprehensive calendar of competitive matches throughout the year. We have teams in the BUCS Leagues and send fencers to the BUCS Individual Championships each year. BUCS league matches take place regularly on Wednesday afternoons. Other competitions such as National Opens take place at weekends and we also organise several flagship events such as The London Team Trophy. Unlike many other fencing clubs, we operate throughout the year, including the holiday periods.

The club also explores the history of the sport through our tour of duelling sites around London and visits to The Wallace Collection armouries and the National armouries in Leeds. These form part of a full social calendar.

We pride ourselves on being one of the best social clubs at Student Central. Not counting our weekly after-fencing social sessions, we run many events throughout the year which will give you the opportunity to bond with your clubmates off the piste. From our legendary Christmas parties, to trips to the theatre, movie nights and good old student drinking sessions, this club will cater to any tastes.

If you are a beginner then the club will supply all the equipment and coaching you need. Just turn up in tracksuit bottoms, t-shirt and trainers. Note that shorts are not acceptable. More experienced fencers are encouraged to use their own equipment. You will also need to bring your Student Central card with you.
