The University of London Symphony Orchestra is widely recognised as one of the leading student orchestras in the UK. Founded in 1955, ULSO was established to provide students from the diverse academic backgrounds of the University of London's component colleges with the opportunity to play together. In July 2010, the internationally-renowned conductor Daniel Capps took over as Music Director of ULSO. Repertoire highlights for his debut season include Stravinsky Rite of Spring and Shostakovich Symphony No. 11, and much more besides.
When and Where Do We Meet?
ULSO is made up of students from nearly every university in London. We are unique in that we offer students the opportunity to rehearse and perform large-scale symphonic works to an exceptionally high standard, regardless of what they study - entry is soley by audition. We have a strong mix of both Conservatoire students and students who wish to pursue music as a serious hobby.
ULSO rehearsals take place on Tuesday evenings between 18:30 and 21:30 at St Stephen's Church, Gloucester Road, London, SW7 4RL.
How do I join?
Entry to ULSO is by audition. Each year, both new and returning members have to audition by submitting a video. In specific circumstances, for example if you wish to be considered for leader or a principal role, there will be a second round, in-person audition.
