The NRASTC is a supervision and rescue qualification for teachers working on the poolside or in the water during programmed activities, such as a swimming lesson. It is suitable for anyone working in a wide range of swimming pools, including pools where the water is deeper than the standing depth.

Please note this course does not qualify you to work as a lifeguard, for that you will need to look at our National Pool Lifeguard Qualification.

Student Central is an accredited centre and runs a 2 day course that is open to its students and members of the public. Training is split between our recently refurbished conference rooms and the largest swimming pool in central London, we are located on Malet Street, London, WC1E 7HY.

Costs 

Cost includes all course materials, examination and your certificate from the RLSS.  We also offer the optional Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) bolt on with this course which you can sign up for at a cost of £20 during your training.

Signing Up

Ensure you have registered with Student Central and that you have received and opened your account activation email (please check your junk mail). 

Log in to the website and select one of the course dates listed below, from there you can add a ticket to your basket and proceed to the checkout. 

Complete the candidate booking form and make a secure payment online. All successful bookings will receive a confirmation email.

Prerequisites 

Candidates must be at least 16 and must be capable of the following before taking part in the course.

  • Swim 50m 
  • Surface dive to the deepest part of the pool where training
  • Climb out of the pool without help and without using steps or ladders

Ideally candidates will also hold at least a Level 1 Swimming Assistant (Teaching) or coaching qualification. This award is also suitable to Lifesaving Instructors and Lifeguard Trainer Assessors to supervise activities during programmed classes and training. 

Renewal Candidates 

If you are renewing an existing NRASTC qualification, you only need to purchase the renewal tickets and attend the 2nd day of the course. Please note this will not include a first aid renewal as we cover this on day one. If you are looking for first aid renewal as well you will need to purchase a full price ticket and attend both days.

It is your responsibility to check you have a valid qualification that has not expired when you attend the course, you will be asked to produce it on the day.
