Overview

Royal Veterinary College student Fran Cutts has been selected to take part in Unite Students JOGLE cycle challenge in aid of Sport Relief. Fran is one of only 3 students picked to join a team of 10 as they cycle John O'Groats to Lands' End.

From the 27th February - 11th March the team will be cycling a total of 1,052 miles down the length of the UK. Fran, 20, from Leicester is currently studying Bio-veterinary sciences at the RVC, where she is on her placement year and is also Treasurer of the UoL Gymnastics society. Fran said: "I am very excited to be able to be a part of the Unite JOGLE team and raise money for such an important charity. Sport Relief does such amazing work both abroad and here at home in the UK, the good work they do will definitely keep me motivated over the 12 days."

Each rider has been tasked with raising £1,052 - £1 for every mile cycled – which will go directly to Sport Relief. If you would like to support Fran, you can visit her Just Giving page or text the code NSBR67 followed by a donation amount £3 to 70070. A donation of just £3 could help protect a child in Uganda from deadly waterborne diseases by giving them access to clean drinking water at their school.

Between Monday 29 February and Wednesday 9 March students in 25 cities across the UK will battle it out against each other to see who can clock up the most miles for Sport Relief. The campaign will culminate with a large static bike challenge at Observation Point, Southbank, London on 11 March. This will be a final push to reach the 250,000 miles and £250,000 fundraising targets.  You can find out more here: http://www.unite-students.com/sport-relief

At 7pm on Thursday the 25th February at Student Central, Jamie McDonald - marathon static cycling world record holder - will be holding a free motivational talk about his super-hero adventures. Jaime has cycled the 14,000 miles from Bangkok to his hometown Gloucester, passing through dozens of countries where along the way he was shot at, arrested and slept rough. Two days after coming back he began his world static cycling record attempt  and managed to smash the existing record by pedalling for an amazing 268 hours – more than eleven days. Not bad for someone who spent the first nine years of his life in and out of hospital with a rare spinal condition known as syringomyelia combined with a very weak immune system and epilepsy. If you’re looking for inspiration then Jamie’s your man!

The team will start the ride in John O’ Groats on 27 February and travel through seven cities:
